Slaves to the sweet Summer of Sin

from Of Atheists and Lovers by Illegal Wiretaps

/

about

Ten years to the date, Raymond returns to the abandoned apartment where his affair became a rotting corpse. Untouched, the place remains an exhibit of terror. The room's air, stiff, yet sharp, peels open the scab where the puss of memory pours out. His Jehovah's witness beauty exists as an unchanged figure permanently paralyzed in time.

lyrics

A Soviet-made vase,
A Strange heirloom.
A thing difficult to replace,
lied broken in our room.

The windows were open,
The sweet summer winds,
Swept up the tiniest pieces
And the fragments of our sins.

The fascist-made curtains,
floated above the sill.
An architechted nightmare
Left me frozen still.

A jury-less trial,
A conviction before it begins,
Our freedom would never last,
Slaves to the sweet summer of sin.
